On this day in 2015, Arsenal beat Middlesbrough 2-0 in the fifth round of the FA Cup on our way to Wembley.

After Arsenal’s nail-biting 3-2 extra time win over Hull in 2014, the Gunners hoped to retain the trophy, something we’d only managed once before.

We’d already beaten Hull again (2-0) in the third round and Brighton in the fifth (3-2), so when we faced Boro at the Emirates, we were feeling pretty confident.

Arsene Wenger proved once against that he doesn’t take the FA Cup for granted, fielding a strong team, which included Olivier Giroud, Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.

In fact, it was our big guy up front who scored both goals on the day – and what goals they were.

Giroud’s first goal came in the 27th minute after some stunning build-up play by the Gunners, which resulted in Kieran Gibbs crossing the ball neatly to Oli, who flicked the ball instinctively into the net.

The second came just two minutes later from an Alexis corner, which Oli, again flicked across his body and into the Boro net.

Arsenal went on to beat Manchester United 2-1 at Old Trafford in the next round before narrowly scraping past Reading on penalties in the semi-final. We then beat Aston Villa 4-0 in the final, retaining the trophy.
