Stephy Mavididi was a second half substitute for Charlton on Saturday as they drew 3-3 at Rochdale and promptly made a name for himself.

The Arsenal man was introduced after 64 minutes and had a shot saved by the Rochdale keeper just two minutes later. After running the length of the pitch and beating four players. Of course. Charlton manager, Karl Robinson, said it would have been the greatest goal he’d ever seen

Speaking after the match, Robinson said, “Young Stehpy has certainly got some of our fans on the edge of their seats.

“If that goal had gone in it would have been one of the best goals I’ve ever seen live.

“Unfortunately it wasn’t for him but then we scored from the corner.

“What I was more impressed with was when we scored the second – for a loan player to celebrate like he did shows that he really cares.

“You don’t always get that when you get players from big clubs. He really cares about the development of himself and the results of the club.”

The game was poised at 1-1 when Mavididi was introduced thanks to a fourth minute Niall Canavan opener for the hosts, cancelled out by Jordan Botaka’s goal after 41 minutes.

Stephy’s introduction changed things, with many Charlton fans saying his 20-minute-spell was the highlight of the game.

Jorge Texeira gave the visitors a 2-1 lead after 67 minutes, but Rochdale were level again just three minutes later when Calvin Andrew found the back of the net. With six minutes remaining, Rochdale might have thought they won it when they took the lead for the second time, Nathaniel Mendez-Laing netting from outside of the box. But four minutes later, Charlton pulled themselves level again thanks to a close-range effort from Texeira again.
