Kieran Gibbs admitted he was lucky not to get sent off against Hull when he picked up a yellow in the second half.

He looked to barge into Lazar Markovic and the Hull players surrounded the ref to protest that their man was through on goal.

Clattenburg reached into his pocket and brought out a yellow card.

Speaking after the game, Gibbs was asked if he was lucky. Here’s what he had to say: “Yeah, definitely I took a chance. Lolo  and Musti both jumped for the ball and I did try and jump for the ball.

“Mark said the ball was going away from goal so not much more I can say”

Clattenburg also apparently apologised to Hull players and management (confirmed by Hull player post match and Sky Sports) at halftime for giving the Alexis goal which he said he wasn’t ‘100% sure’ about so he couldn’t give handball.
