There were starts for a few of Arsenal’s players out on-loan during Friday and Saturday’s fixtures across Europe, with contrasting results.

ENGLAND

Jack Wilshere (AFC Bournemouth) and Calum Chambers (Middlesbrough) both started for their respective sides. Despite individually impressing, they both suffered defeats.

Krystian Bielik was an unused substitute during Birmingham’s 1-0 win over Fulham.

Stephy Mavididi was also an unused sub for Charlton Athletic, during their 1-1 draw against Fleetwood Town.

Marc Bola was unable to stop Notts County from suffering a 2-0 away defeat at the hands of Accrington Stanley. The teenage fullback came on as a first-half substitute as Thierry Gerard Audel sustained an injury less than ten minutes before the half-time interval.

Kaylen Hinds made his Stevenage debut with 12 minutes to play during a tense 2-1 win over Crawley Town.

Goalkeeper Matt Macey was an unused substitute as Luton Town were held to a 1-1 draw against Grimsby Town.

FRANCE

Ismael Bennacer made a 20-minute cameo as Tours drew 1-1 with Reims, one of the heavily-fancied teams for promotion to Ligue 1 this term.

SCOTLAND

Jon Toral created an assist for Rangers and was booked late on during an eventful draw against Ross County. After a forgettable performance in midweek, the talented Spaniard was heavily involved from midfield. He set-up Ross Wallace’s equaliser midway through the second-half.

Jon turns 22 today (5 February) and his improved display is a welcome early present as he aims to become a mainstay in the Rangers side between now and the end of the campaign.

NETHERLANDS

Tafari Moore started and completed the full 90 minutes for Utrecht’s second string side against PSV’s equivalent. The right-back was unable to stop the visitors from securing a 2-0 victory though.

Kelechi Nwakali featured from the offset too, as MVV Maastricht were held to a goalless draw against Achilles 29. Stefan O’Connor was an unused substitute again, with the centre-back becoming an increasingly isolated figure within the matchday squad every weekend.

Gedion Zelalem played the final 15 minutes as VVV-Venlo cruised to a 4-1 win over De Graafschap. The damage was already done before the midfielder was introduced.

Creative midfielder Daniel Crowley started, created an assist and played 70 minutes during a 2-1 win over NEC Nijmegen for Go Ahead Eagles. His best performance yet, he’ll be hoping to build up momentum during a crunch period of fixtures for the side – who are still bottom of the Eredivisie despite their first victory since the start of November.

PORTUGAL

Joel Campbell was not involved in Sporting’s 2-1 defeat at the hands of Porto on Saturday evening. The 24-year-old winger was an unused substitute against Pacos Ferreira last weekend and hasn’t started a game since their 2-1 win over Feirense in the first game of 2017.
