Mats Hummels hailed Arsenal’s style of play ahead of Bayern Munich’s Champions League clash with them at the Allianz.

The German defender reckons that considering the Gunners traditionally play a completely different style of football to most Bundesliga teams, the game itself will be an exciting one.

“It’s a difficult but very attractive tie,” the 28-year-old told Goal. “It’s nice, because it’s in stark contrast to all our other matches. Arsenal are a team that wants to play football, they like to be in possession.

“Since Arsene Wenger’s been there, so about 20 years, that’s what they’ve stood for. It will certainly be a completely different game (than) what we face in our Bundesliga matches. They’re not an opponent that only defends and attempts the counter attack.

“So you have to classify this game in complete isolation to any others and not consider what’s happened before, or what can happen after.”

It’s high praise although given the way Arsenal are playing at the moment, I fear Hummels will be a little disappointed when we rock up to the Allianz potentially looking as if we’ve never seen a football before.

Saying this, we’ve every change of pulling a result out of the bag considering Bayern haven’t exactly been on fire this season. Although they still sit top the Bundesliga table ahead of second-place Leipzig by seven points, they’ve been looking far from convincing with some of their usual big-hitters, such as Thomas Muller, failing to gel with Carlo Ancelotti’s system.

If Arsenal can manage a draw away in Munich, there’s everything to play for.
