Former Spurs striker, Nico Claesen, reckons that Anderlecht midfielder, Youri Tielemans, should join Arsenal.

Claesen was a Spurs striker from 1986 – 1988 and was a Belgium international for seven years, picking up 36 caps and scoring 12 goals.

Tielemans, 19, is said to be one of the hottest prospects in Europe right now and despite reported interest from Manchester United and Everton, Claeson reckons that his fellow Belgian should go to Arsenal.

The 54-year-old believes that although Tielemans is doing well at Anderlecht, he’s not had any real tests yet and a move to the Premier League could help him develop. Why Arsenal? Well he just likes our ‘look’ and youngsters tend to get given a chance there.

“Succeeding in the Premier League is something different to excelling in Belgium,” Claesen told Het Laatste Nieuws.

“I think of efficiency in the adaptation, because he needs to work on.

“And can he compete? At Anderlecht, everything has always been relatively easy for him. In England he must start from scratch and learn to fight.

“I rather think a club like Arsenal, who haven’t won many titles in recent years, but have a great look.

“Furthermore, the Gunners play in a way that Tielemans must: with a lot of technique and opportunities for youngsters.”

Tielemans has scored an impressive 11 goals in 25 appearances in the Jupiler Pro League so far this season and assisted seven. He’s also scored three in six in the Europa League, proving that he can stand up to most tests.

However, as Claeson says, the Premier League is a completely different type of test.

At the moment, it doesn’t seem as if Arsenal are interested.
