Barcelona midfielder, Xavi, is sure that Pep Guardiola will make a move for Jack Wilshere.

Wilshere’s been linked with Manchester City for a little while now and with the midfielder’s Arsenal contract set to run out in under 18 month’s time, the rumours are only going to intensify.

Guardiola has made no secret of the fact that he admires the 25-year-old and now Xavi, who worked under Pep at Barcelona, claims that he’s sure his former boss will make a move for the England international.

“I know Pep has always had a lot of respect for Wilshere – he impressed so many of the Barcelona team when we played Arsenal in 2011,” Xavi said to Fox Latin America.

“He impressed me a lot that night, I know he also did Pep and it will be a player that he would have been following ever since.

“We have talked about him, it was not a performance you forget easily.

“Technically he is the sort of player that Pep loves – his only problem has been injuries – and if it wasn’t for the issues he has had with injuries I am sure he would be one of the best midfield players in the world.

“At the moment he seems to be doing well with his fitness – and if there is a chance to sign him in the summer – I am sure Pep will give it real consideration.”

A couple of years ago I would have laughed at the notion that Jack could join our rivals but since his loan spell at Bournemouth, I’m not so sure that he could turn them down if Pep offered him regular first team football and a decent wage deal.

As it stands, I’m sure Arsenal will do everything they can to keep him in north London and I’m hoping that he wants to return home after he’s finished at Bournemouth.
