Mohamed Elneny is due to return to London Colney today (Wednesday), where his fitness will be assessed following his involvement in the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Egypt international scored in the AFCoN final against Cameroon but his country unfortunately lost 2-1. However, before this, the midfielder was a doubt since he was apparently carrying a calf strain.

Although he was obviously able to represent his country in the final and score Egypt’s only goal, Elneny’s fitness will still have to be assessed ahead of Arsenal’s Premier League clash against Hull at the weekend.

Under normal circumstances, I’d guess that Arsene Wenger would rest the midfielder, since he’s bound to be knackered and his head will be a little down after losing a final. However, with Aaron Ramsey out – also with a calf strain – Santi Cazorla out for the next 56 years and Francis Coquelin being… Francis Coquelin, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Elneny feature against the Tigers.

Neither would James Olley from the Evening Standard, who believes that if everything comes back fine after the fitness assessment, Elneny will get the nod on Saturday.

Having him back in the side could be a massive boost.
