Former Spurs man, Ledley King, has been speaking to the London Evening Standard about Dele Alli and how this Tottenham squad want to finally finish above Arsenal.

The injury-prone defender made a total of 268 appearances for Spurs during his time there but still never managed to see his club finish above their bitter north London rivals. However, he reckons this is the season they will finally do it.

Ledley compared England international, Alli, to Frank Lampard and went on to reveal how much this group of players want to finish above Arsenal.

“When I was playing, we were a team who were just trying to get into the top four whereas Arsenal were probably looking to win the League,” he said.

“If that meant finishing above Arsenal, then great but our first step was top four, then top three or top two.

“With this team, they already feel comfortable competing for a top-four spot and, having been second for a lot of last season when they really should have finished above Arsenal, they will be keen to do that as well as finish in the top four. It would be a big thing. This group wants to be the team to finally break that run. From a psychological point of view, it would do wonders for this group to be the ones to do that because they would go onwards and upwards.”

Year after year, Spurs players, managers and pundits, old and new, claim that this is Tottenham’s year. This season, they’ll finally finish above Arsenal. And they’ve never managed it.

In may, they lost against newly relegated Newcastle, basically handing the Gunners second place in the League on the final day of the season. This is despite Arsenal doing everything in their power to mess up last term.

While I do believe that this year Spurs COULD finish above us, I’ll believe it when I see it.
