Bayern Munich look like they could well be without Xabi Alonso after the midfielder picked up a knee injury in training on Monday.

The former Liverpool man was pictured being taken from the training pitch on a golf buggy after a challenge by Gabriel Javi Martinez. He needed help from the physios to walk.

Bayern are already without Jerome Boateng and Franck Ribery for the first leg game at the Allianz on Wednesday. Arsenal, for their part, will be without most of their midfield, however Granit Xhaka should return to the starting line up. Although he has served his four-match suspension, that was a domestic ban and wouldn’t have applied to this game anyway.

On Tuesday it was revealed that the Swiss midfielder would face no further action regarding allegations that he racially abused someone at Heathrow. The police dropped the case after interviewing him shortly after the alleged incident.

I’ve yet to see a single article in any of the tabloids about this [printed editions].
