Arsenal had scouts at Benfica’s latest match on Friday with speculation growing about who they could be there watching.

Top of the list, at least according to the Portuguese and Serbian media, is a 20-year-old winger called Andrija Zivkovic. Sport Witness, however, point out that the press in both countries are crediting the other with starting the rumour. Not a great start.

Zivkovic joined Benfica last summer from Partizan Belgrade and Arsenal, apparently, have been interested ever since. Arsenal tend to have scouts at Benfica games (and in Portugal generally) quite a lot. They were recently spotted at a Porto game, allegedly watching Danilo.

We never seem to do much about it, however.

That, in itself, tells us little. It is only a very teeny tiny percentage of players scouted who ever move beyond that stage.

Zivkovic for his part, is a left-footed right-winger, who can also play on the left and in attacking midfield.

A current market value of £5.53m, he is under contract until 2021.
