Arsenal have reportedly been scouting Napoli’s Lorenzo Insigne and Faouzi Ghoulam with media outlets claiming the pair are Arsenal’s top summer targets.
Ghoulam is said to be in a ‘contract standoff’ with Napoli, while Insigne has already received an offer from an English club according to his agent.
Tell me about Insigne…
A 25-year-old attacking midfielder with eight goals and six assists in 25 Serie A games, Insigne is under contract with the Italians until 2019. His last deal was signed in 2014. Overall, he has nine goals and eight assists.
He’s a player who has been linked with Arsenal since around 2015 but back then his agent said that the player wanted to remain at the club ‘for life’.
There seems to be no reason for the player to change his mind on that and despite Arsenal scouting him, it’s hard to see a deal happening.
A fee of around €45m could tempt Napoli, but Arsenal have to tempt the player, too. When it comes to luring Italians away from Italy, that’s no easy thing to do.
Ok, what about Ghoulam?
This is much more promising.
Arsenal are in the market for a left-back as they look to replace Nacho Monreal whose star is fading. 26 and out of contract in 2018, Napoli are having a hard time getting the French-Algerian to renew. Adept along the entire left-flank, he has four assists in 20 Serie A games – not a bad return for a full-back at the end of February.
He’s also another player that Arsenal have been linked with since at least 2015.
Strong in the air, great at going forward and good on the ball, what’s not to love?
What are Arsenal doing about the pair?
All that’s known at the minute is that they have been scouting Napoli for a while now.
Offers, moves and everything else are all still being reported as ‘potential’ so this is very much a 1+1 game with the media in Italy hoping that the answer is 2.
