Following his deadline day loan switch from Arsenal, the Chuba Akpom has publicly stressed his eagerness to add another dimension to Brighton’s attacking options.

The 21-year-old striker, who recently recovered from a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a back injury, returned to action with the u23s in January and managed to earn himself a Championship switch.

His main aim is to assert future first-team credentials by impressing with regular senior minutes under his belt and the forward stated his belief that he’ll adapt well to Brighton’s 4-4-2 formation.

As quoted by the club’s official website he said, “It’s always good to play with another striker, you can bounce off each other and there’s more support than usual. There’s always going to be competition and it keeps the team strong.”

With 12 senior players aged 28 or older, it’s no surprise the youngster referenced experience when discussing how he can learn from this current spell.

They’re all experienced players and they know how to play in this league. It’s going to be good to learn from them, and we’ve all got something different to offer.

The main thing for me now is impress the boss here and show my teammates and the fans what I can do. That’s my main aim.

Akpom featured against Brighton in both home and away fixtures for Hull City last term and when questioned, had plenty of positive things to say about his new surroundings.

It’s a good club and everyone knows the Championship is a tough league with a lot of games, as it’s very competitive and unpredictable. In this division you just have to get your head down and take each game as it comes.

The team is flying high sitting top of the league and you can see that they’ve got the winning mentality and are playing the right football. I just want to be a positive addition to the team and help boost the side to promotion.

That quote in particular is encouraging to see, not least from a player who will subconsciously know that time could be running out with regards to his long-term future at Arsenal. Sharing an almost identical background to new boss Chris Houghton, as well as the fact he was one of his idols growing up suggests this loan spell could be more of a successful one in comparison to Hull, which showed plenty of promise but gradually faded away.

He has already been welcomed with open arms from Brighton fans who will be undoubtedly hoping his arrival boosts their chances of automatic promotion this season, and that should help him settle in much quicker as he gets accustomed to different tactical styles of play.
