About the move, Stan Valckx, club manager, said“Initially, we asked for advice from our partner club West Ham United, but they couldn’t provide us with the type of player we were looking for.

“We’re always looking for new paths and this unique opportunity came our way, which we welcome. We seized the chances with both hands. Given the number of games that we play and breadth of our selection, Gedion is a welcome enhancement.”

CEO, Marco Boogers, added, “We are delighted that Arsenal offers us the potential.

“The paperwork takes time, regarding international lease.

“Fortunately, today everything came around and Gedion can now play for our club.”

Zelalem had his medical at the club earlier in the month and has already been training with his new side. He will be hoping that this loan works out better than his loan with Rangers last season which saw him struggle.

It is also rumoured that he signed a new deal with Arsenal before moving. His current deal was set to expire this summer.
