Granit Xhaka was questioned by police over an alleged incident at Heathrow on Monday evening but was released without charge.

The story broke on Tuesday afternoon with the police issuing the following statement: “Police were called at 19:29hrs on Monday, 23 January following an allegation that a member of staff had been racially abused at Heathrow Airport, Terminal Five.

“The allegation was made by a third party.

“Officers attended and spoke with a man in his 20s. He was not arrested. He voluntarily attended a west London police station where he was interviewed under caution.

“Enquires continue.”

The language used in many media reports seemed sensational to say the least with some filling in details from alleged witnesses.

At the time of writing, Xhaka has been released without charge or warning and there would seem to be no story here at present. Sky Sports contacted Arsenal for comment. They refused to give any, stating it was a private and police matter.

We will, of course, follow up should anything of substance happen.
