January’s almost over and somehow Mathieu Debuchy is still at Arsenal.

It’s pretty unclear where the right-back’s relationship with the club and Arsene Wenger stands at this point in time.

Everyone knew that Debuchy wanted to leave but a recent interview in which he claimed that Wenger blocked a couple of transfers for him, something the boss disputes, I imagine, has made his time at the club since a little uncomfortable.

Not only this but the hamstring injury he picked up back in December means he’s pretty much useless right now.

Therefore, it was a little surprising that the reports linking the defender with a move away from north London quietened down.

Speaking ahead of Arsenal’s FA Cup clash against Southampton, Wenger insists that the door is still open for Debuchy but acknowledged that he could move elsewhere.

“It has gone quiet because I didn’t close the door because there’s a lot of competition on the right flank,” Wenger said. “Now Gabriel has been convincing on the right side as well, so I don’t close the door. What I just want to say is that he’s fully fit now and so he is available to play and maybe even to have an experience somewhere else.”

I find the idea of Debuchy staying at Arsenal past this January a little odd given the way he spoke about his boss and the fact that he’ll probably never get into the first team again Hopefully, we find a club for him soon.
