Carl Jenkinson leaving Arsenal for good during the January transfer window is pretty much a certainty now but Arsene Wenger claims it doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with Hector Bellerin returning from injury.

Bellerin received a knock in training recently, which had sidelined him for a couple of games. He’s now due to return against Burnley on Sunday and, coincidentally, Jenks seems to be on his way out. However, the boss claims this isn’t the case.

“It is not necessarily linked with that. Jenkinson is a possibility to go to Palace, yes, but it has not been finalised. It is basically down to him to find an agreement with them,” Wenger said.

On Thursday, not long after Wenger’s pre-Burnley presser in which he said that Jenks should be moving to Palace but nothing has been finalised, it was reported that the deal was off, with the claims pointing to wage demands as the reason the player and club couldn’t come to an agreement.

To be fair, I trust Wenger when he says that Bellerin’s return wasn’t necessarily the reason for selling Jenkinson. The right-back has struggled to even get into the squad since returning from his long-term injury and, at the moment, you can’t see this changing. Hopefully, a new club and new start is just what his career needs.
