Arsene Wenger heaped praise on the mental strength of Danny Welbeck to return from his latest injury so well.

The forward made his first start since May and wasted no time on getting himself on the scoresheet with a brace against Southampton.

Speaking to the press after the game, Arsene Wenger was asked about the Englishman.

“He was very sharp because he worked very hard, you know,” Wenger said.

“Danny comes back from a long way out and I think he’s gone through some very difficult moments mentally.

“Overall, I believe his resilience is marvellous after the first step and he is rewarded tonight.

“We are very happy.”

Wenger was also asked about Theo’s performance and he replied, “Walcott this season, he scores many goals.

“The problem is he has been out for a while, now hopefully everybody will be back and we can use them all at the right moment.”
