Arsene Wenger has once against confirmed that Arsenal are not on the verge of signing anyone this January.

There aren’t any positions desperately in need of strengthening and we all know the boss doesn’t like splashing the cash or mixing up the squad too much halfway through the season unless he really has to.

With this in mind, it’s not surprising in the slightest that the boss isn’t adding to our squad this January.

Speaking ahead of Arsenal’s trip to St. Mary’s for our FA Cup clash against the Saints, Wenger confirmed with just days to go that it doesn’t look like the Gunners will sign anyone this window, simply saying, “we are not on the verge of signing anyone”.

We do appear to be preparing to offload Carl Jenkinson to Crystal Palace, however, and we’ve rewarded Per Mertesacker (and Santi Cazorla) with one-year contract extensions, so we haven’t been completely inactive.

For once, I don’t actually feel annoyed by our lack of transfer activity. In fact, I’d be more confused if we did sign a big name player at this point.
