Danny Welbeck made his first start in around eight months against Southampton at the weekend and got off to a dream start.

The striker scored in the 15th and 22nd minute during the 5-0 FA Cup victory, which also saw Theo Walcott score a hattrick, and admitted to the Arsenal app* that it’s performances like that which keep him going.

“Scoring goals like that is what keeps you going through the difficult times when you are coming back from injury,” the 26-year-old said.

“The end game was to be back out on the pitch and playing in the first team and I got an opportunity to start on Saturday and I’m certainly looking forward to doing it many more times.”

It’s no secret that Welbz had a hard time returning from injury. He’s dealt with his fair share of injury woes during his career but when he returned from one cruciate knee injury, only to pick up another months later, it was tough to take.

Speaking recently, Arsene Wenger revealed just how hard a time the former Manchester United star had, especially seeing as this injury meant he missed out on traveling to Euro 2016 with the England squad.

“The patience you need when you have an injury at that age… it’s terrible [to go through],” the boss said at the beginning of the month.

Welbeck looked sharp and fit against Southampton and while it’s a doubt that he’ll feature against Watford since the manager has to be cautious with him after so long on the sidelines, it’s fantastic to see him back.
