If such things can be quantified, then this week has certainly been a lot better than the week that went before.

For a start, we won both our games instead of losing them so that’s always helpful.

We also welcomed back some players from injury. Mustafi made his return to the bench from a hamstring problem while Danny Welbeck returned to full training but we also lost Kieran Gibbs to a knee injury of his own making.

Mathieu Debuchy was running his mouth again but Arsene Wenger denied all of it and people care about Debuchy so little that nobody even bothered debating who could be telling the truth.

Arsenal ladies legend, Alex Scott, will receive an MBE for her services and ‘outstanding contribution to women’s football,’ and it’s hard to argue with the award in any fashion.

In other ladies news, two stalwarts were allowed to leave. Keeper, Emma Byrne, and forward, Rachel Yankey, both said their goodbyes.

After the news was announced on Arsenal.com, Byrne took to Twitter:

I guess it’s safe to say it wasn’t a mutual decision.

In all, it was a relatively quiet Christmas period.

While we expect the football to come thick and fast every couple of days for around a fortnight we’ve hardly had any action. That suited me. I was dosed up on painkillers after surgery.

Quiet was just how I wanted things.
