Alvaro Morata could ask to leave Real Madrid in the summer if he doesn’t see more playing time, with Arsenal heavily linked after trying to land the player in previous windows.

Morata was doing brilliantly with Juventus before Real Madrid suffered a touch of the Chelseas and brought him back. Initially, it was expected that they would sell him on immediately to cash in on the great season he’d had in Serie A, but to the surprise of many, they opted to keep him at the club.

The player should have seen what was coming.

This season, he’s featured in 12 of Real Madrid’s 17 league games, averaging 52 minutes per match. In that time, he’s scored five goals and grabbed three assists – not bad considering he’s only started 6 of those 12 games, and only completed 90 minutes twice.

Benched and not used in the last two league games, rumours surrounding his level of happiness in Spain have started to surface. Unsurprisingly, Arsenal are being linked again with Chelsea thrown into the mix in addition to Juventus, where Morata scored 27 goals (19 assists) in 80 games during his 2 years on loan there.

Should Morata feel like taking the plunge into the Premier League, Chelsea could well have the edge in the race for his signature. Antonio Conte was manager of the Old Lady when Morata first arrived there.

Morata himself has never made any secret of his desire to play for Real Madrid so I wouldn’t put any money on him giving up just yet despite a report in Spain claiming he could ask to leave if things don’t change.

That being said, if the club decide he’s no longer needed, he won’t really get a say in the matter.
