Southampton have received some bad news regarding centreback, Virgil van Dijk’s, ankle injury.

The defender signed from Celtic in 2015 and has since been huge for the Saints, making a total of 68 appearances and even scoring seven goals in all competitions. He a massive first team player who Arsenal were even linked with at one stage, and Manchester City, Everton and Chelsea have been linked with since.

However, the Dutchman now faces up to three months on the sidelines due to an ankle injury he picked up against Leicester during the Saints’ 3-0 win.

Van Dijk was taken off in the 55th minute against the Foxes and has since been ruled out of their EFL semi-final clash against Liverpool tonight (Wednesday).

The 25-year-old will therefore definitely miss Southampton’s FA Cup clash against Arsenal at the weekend and considering they’ve just sold Jose Fonte to West Ham, it puts them in a bit of a sticky situation.

Arsenal don’t usually have the best time at St Mary’s. However, with the Saints’ key centreback sidelined and the side coming off the back of a league cup semi-final, perhaps we have a slightly better chance.
