It’s happened: Julian Draxler has signed for PSG from Wolfsburg after a bizarre transfer saga.

The attacking German made his feelings towards his Bundesliga team very clear back in the summer when he gave a very frank interview about the club going back on promises. They refused to sell, however, with Juventus, PSG and Arsenal all linked.

“Before one goes public, they should also have a word with myself,” he told Bild back in August.

“For me it is so that I have expressed myself clearly after the Euros, with Dieter Hecking, that I want to leave Wolfsburg. The coach knows for more than three weeks.

“Two days after the semi-final at the European Championships I told him how I see the whole situation and what I want, which is to leave the club.”

Arsene Wenger, a long time fan of the 23-year-old, was thought to be eager to bring him to north London in January and, while most Gooners weren’t convinced it’d happen, especially it January, reports began to build momentum.

Over time, despite the odd link, it became clear that PSG, who allegedly originally made contact with Draxler’s people in the summer, were in the driver’s seat and, sure enough, he’s now signed a deal with the Parisian giants until 2021.

The Ligue 1 club apparently paid €36+6m for the young German international, which is odd considering his €75m release fee would be triggered in the summer and Wolfsburg could have made a killing.

So, are Arsenal really missing out on not signing Draxler?

Twitter went into meltdown claiming that we’d missed out on another huge target despite there being no definitive proof that Arsenal or Wenger were avidly hunting the player this time.

I’m feeling pretty neutral about the whole thing. Could we have done with someone creative to play off Mesut Ozil when any number of Theo Walcott, Alex Iwobi or Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are either injured or not on form? Yes.

However, as it stands, we have a pretty full squad and I think the boss wants to give it a chance before making big changes, especially mid-season.

It’s one of those signings that would most likely have improved us but there’s no point crying over spilled Draxler… or something.
