Samir Nasri has said that he doesn’t know why Arsenal weren’t competing for major trophies when he was at the club but that it was clear that ‘We did not compete on equal terms with Chelsea and Manchester United.’

The Frenchman left Arsenal after just three years for the money at Manchester City. That is, of course, a little disingenuous given that he won a number of trophies up there, but his comments about Arsenal and our fans did not endear him to the Gunners’ faithful after leaving

Speaking to Onze Mondial recently, Nasri said, “I do not know [why we did not win titles].

“I do not know why. We must also take into account the fact that when I was in Arsenal, we did not fight on equal terms with Chelsea or Manchester United.

“Arsenal made the choice to move to the Emirates Stadium, so there was the stadium credit. The bosses of the club have always wanted to have healthy finances, they never wanted to go into debt.

“So they obviously did not recruit like the others. Since I left, they have won two Cups. They are trophies and all trophies are good trophies.”

In the interview, he also spoke about his best goal from his time at Arsenal. “…the double against Fulham. Two individual goals. At the end of this match, we are first in the championship, it was in November/December.

“The goal against Porto is very beautiful too.

“It qualifies us for the quarterfinals of the Champions League.

“But I prefer my two goals against Fulham anyway.

“During my time at Arsenal, it is those [goals]who have most marked me. Two magnificent goals in the same game.”

He also revealed that he is still in touch with Arsene Wenger. “Yes, I spoke with him at the beginning of the season. I also met him the day before the final of the Euro in Paris.

“When we see each other, we talk a lot. I would lie to you if I told you, “We often call ourselves.” But from time to time, a little message, yes.”

Nasri is currently on loan in La Liga with Sevilla. He has two goals and one assist in 11 league games, three goals and one assist in 16 across all competitions.
