According to reports in both the Telegraph and Independent, Arsenal are weighing up an attempt to sign Borussia Dortmund winger Marco Reus as a potential replacement for Alexis Sánchez, should the talented Chilean refuse a contract extension in the coming months.

The 28-year-old has established himself as a key player for Arsenal since joining in the summer of 2014, so much so that the forward has attracted interest from a number of clubs across Europe over the past year. His contribution in terms of goals and assists has been impressive to say the least, with his relentless attitude playing a key part in Arsenal’s improved efforts near the final third.

His Panenka penalty to seal a last-gasp win over Burnley last weekend was his 15th Premier League goal of the campaign and he’s currently level with Chelsea’s Diego Costa in the race for the Golden Boot.

Alexis’ presence is sure to have a significant impact on the Gunners’ title aspirations this term but with Serie A giants Juventus just one of the interested clubs, it wouldn’t be a surprise if his head was turned this summer.

Marco Reus has reportedly been on Arsenal’s radar for a number of years now, dating back to the successful years he spent at Borussia Mönchengladbach.

The 27-year-old has struggled for consistency this term as a result of his troublesome injuries but is undoubtedly a talented player. In terms of expectation, high hopes would be placed on him to perform well regularly if he were to join for a hefty fee at some point in the next few months although Dortmund will hope to keep hold of the winger unless he makes it apparent that he is unsettled and wants to leave.

80 goals and a further 59 assists in 172 appearances for Dortmund is an impressive statistic, especially for someone who is still yet to reach the peak of his powers.

Marco Reus has netted four goals and created six assists (all competitions) this season for Dortmund, despite a frustrating time with injuries once again. Is he worth the risk though?

It’s unlikely that Arsenal will be prepared to part with £50m to sign the German international, who is a versatile attacker but one that comes with a injury-plagued record in recent seasons. He has sustained a whopping 30 injuries since joining in July of 2012 with the majority of them being adductor and other muscular issues.
