Following Emma Byrne’s departure, there is an opening for the back-up goalkeeper job and it seems like Arsenal have already found a replacement.

Social media is giving us a clue, as Jordan Nobbs’ Instagram story showed Sunderland’s goalkeeper, Rachel Laws currently in Huelva, Spain with the squad.

Sunderland Ladies are in crisis after cutting the team’s funding. They have gone from the full-time professional model to the part-time old school model. Therefore, it is easier to prize players away from them as seen with Beth Mead, who had signed a long-term contract but was obviously willing to play full-time.

It would be no surprise to see the 26-year-old goalkeeper is also interested in carrying on playing full-time professional football rather than downgrading to part-time.

She has a lot of experience, having won the FA WSL with Liverpool Ladies while on loan from Sunderland.  She has also been called up for the full England squad but has never been capped.

It is quite funny to see the Arsenal bringing unsigned players to the Spanish camp. They did the same thing last year with Josephine Henning, who was signed at a later date.

You do wonder if Rachel Laws will follow the same path and become the club’s fourth signing from this transfer window.
