Alex Iwobi managed to score not just one but two deflected goals against Swansea to seal Arsenal’s 4-0 win on Saturday.

The Nigeria international hasn’t been awarded either goal it seems, instead, they’ve been chalked up as assists, making his total assist tally four for the Premier League so far this season.

The funny thing is, good old D. Flection and Iwobi seem to link up quite often. Back in September, it was an Iwobi deflection which led to Alexis Sanchez’s first goal against Hull. Although it also works the other way around, for example, when Lucas Moura scored the equaliser for PSG at the Emirates back in November, it deflected in off Iwobi.

The first deflected goal against Swansea – Arsenal’s second – almost made me feel a little sorry for former Gunner, Łukasz Fabiański, who was in goal for Swansea.

A cross from Iwobi bounced off the boot of Jack Cork but continued to loop upwards and over the Polish goalkeeper into the net. There was no saving it and it certainly wasn’t the keeper’s fault but must have been gutting for him none the less while being hilarious for us.

The second was an outright own goal from Kyle Naughton who couldn’t believe he’d allowed another shot from Iwobi to be steered into the net, putting Arsenal 3-0 ahead.

After scoring against Crystal Palace, 20-year-old Iwobi will be disappointed to miss out on racking up a brace. However, he got the assists, which means he’s getting there. Iwobi has found it hard to find the back of the net this season but everything slowly seems to be falling into place. He’s now scored two in the Premier League, three overall and assisted six in all competitions.

The forward had four shots in total against Swansea and completed 32/36 passes, 12/14 of which were in the final third. He also made five ball recoveries and won 2/3 tackles. Impressively, the youngster won both of his aerial duels.

The future’s looking bright for Iwobi and if D. Flection wants to keep helping us out, then so be it. It seems, however, as if he might have already jumped shipped to join Chelsea.
