On this day in 2002, Arsenal beat Liverpool 1-0 in the FA Cup fourth round on the way to the club’s third Double.

The Gunners had already beaten Watford 4-2 with goals from Thierry Henry, Freddie Ljungberg, Kanu and Dennis Bergkamp, when we had to face our title rivals, Liverpool, at Highbury.

The controversial clash ended 1-0 to the Arsenal with a headed goal from Bergkamp (Thierry Henry assist) in the 27th minute, who, along with Martin Keown and Liverpool’s Jamie Carragher would all be sent off in the space of 10 minutes later on.

Keown in the 66th minute for a professional foul on Michael Owen; Bergkamp for on-pitch drama with Carragher, who allegedly threw a coin into the crowd.

After progressing from this round, Arsenal played host to Gillingham, who we beat 5-2, before drawing 1-1 away to Newcastle and beating them 3-0 in the replay at Highbury. A 1-0 win over Middlesbrough saw the Gunners through to the final, where we beat Chelsea 2-0 with goals from Ray Parlour and Ljungberg once again.

It was another FA Cup, which Arsenal have now won 12 times, in the trophy cabinet, with the Gunners travelling to Southampton this weekend in hope of winning a 13th in May.

You never know, we could be on for another Double.

That season, in 2002, Arsenal won their third Double, winning the Premier League with 87 points to Liverpool’s 80.

Elsewhere that season, Arsenal were knocked out of the fifth round of the Football League Cup after Blackburn Rovers managed to beat us 4-0 on their turf and Schalke 04 dumped us out of the Champions League knock-out stage, winning 3-1.

Good thing we won the Double then!
