On this day in 1928, Arsenal sold full-back, Andrew Kennedy, to Everton for £2,000.

The Belfast-born star was at Arsenal for six years after being signed by Leslie Knighton. He’d only played one game for his former club, Crystal Palace, who were in the third division so it’s unlikely that the club paid much at all for the defender, especially considering how the manager wasn’t allowed to pay more than £1,000 for one player.

He made 129 appearances in total for Arsenal after his debut against Birmingham on 2 December 1922.

He played the first 13 games of the 1925/26 season. Bob John, however, replaced him in defence. The club then bought Horace Cope, who was injured, allowing Kennedy to feature in the final eight matches of the 1926/27 campaign, including the FA Cup final against Cardiff City, which Arsenal lost 1-0.

After this, Kennedy only went on to play in two more games for Arsenal and was given the boot by new manager, Herbert Chapman.
