On this day in 1998, Arsenal drew 0-0 with Port Vale in the FA Cup during a year in which the Gunners won the double for the second time.

It was the first cup game (FA Cup third round) of the competition, taking place at Highbury, which resulted in a disappointing 0-0 stalemate.

During the return leg at Vale Park, Port Vale once again put up a good fight and the result ended 1-1. However, thanks to Arsenal winning 4-3 on penalties, we went on to beat Middlesbrough 2-1 in the next round, followed by Crystal Palace over two legs and West Ham over two legs. We then beat Wolves 1-0 in the semi-finals before securing the trophy with a 2-0 win over Newcastle in the final.

Considering the strength of the Arsenal team in 1998, we really should have put the FA Cup tie to bed during that first leg but hey, we went on the win the double for the second time.
