Kelechi Nwakali has rejected the chance to return from his loan in January and opted to remain with MVV Maastricht where he has been impressing this season.

The midfielder was sent out on loan at the start of the season when Arsenal were unable to get him a UK work permit (shocker). There was a clause in his contract that would allow him to return to Arsenal during this window if he was not happy at his new home or felt unsettled.

“Kelechi Nwakali was given the option to return to Arsenal in January, but he wants to remain at MVV because he wants to help them gain promotion to the Eredivisie,” CEO of ASJ Academy, Emeka Amajiriaku told allnigeriasoccer.com.

“When he came to Nigeria for the Christmas break, he was very happy and had very nice things to say about MVV.”

Making 11 appearances in the Jupiler League this season, Nwakali is also the Nigeria u20 captain and is certainly showing an excellent attitude as he adapts to live away from home for the first time.
