Kyle Bartley arrived at Arsenal in 2007 when he was signed from Bolton and big things were expected of him which he finally delivered against Chelsea for West Brom.

Although big things were indeed expected of the then 16-year-old, he wasn’t able to cut it at Arsenal and in 2012 the club allowed him to leave for Swansea after loan deals with Sheffield United and Rangers.

Bartley spent one season with the Swans before he was sent out on loan again – this time to Birmingham – but this was cut short when he was recalled by Swansea.

Under Garry Monk, Bartley impressed and signed a new three-year deal until 2017, however Monk was then sacked after 12 years’ association with the Welsh side.

After Monk’s departure in December, 2015, Bartley was included in the squad only once – playing 13 minutes against Palace – and in the summer of 2016 Monk took the centre back to his new home, Elland Road with Leeds. Before he left, however, he signed a new, one-year extension with Swansea to ensure that they didn’t lose him on a free.

Even though it’s just a loan deal with Leeds until the end of the season, on 17 September, Bartley was handed the captain’s armband for their game against Cardiff City. They won, 2-0 and there was talk of the deal becoming a permanent one.

Bartley, however, returned to Swansea at the end of his loan spell and then moved on to West Brom in the summer of 2018 for a fee of £4.5m. Prior to the game against Chelsea he had made 76 appearances, scoring three goals and assisting two.

Bartley was last seen scoring West Brom’s third against Chelsea on 26 September 2020 to bring his Baggies tally to four and his career total to 16.

Nice one, Kyle!
