Cohen Bramall will go straight into the Arsenal first team squad after training with the first team when his deal is announced later this week according to reports although Arsene Wenger says he is not yet ready for the Premier League.

The 20-year-old left-back has been signed from Hednesford Town after a successful trial and, according to the Daily Star who claim contact with an ‘Arsenal insider,’ he is arriving from the seventh tier of English football to act as a back-up to Nacho Monreal and Kieran Gibbs.

Arsenal will pay the non-league side £40,000 for Cohen’s services but there will no doubt be a ton of extras in the deal based on first team appearances, trophies and full international caps.

He has signed a two-and-a-half year deal and was on trial at the club over Christmas. In fact, it is claimed that Arsenal were so concerned about getting the deal through they only allowed him one day – Christmas Day – to return home to his family before whisking him back to London Colney.

“Arsenal fans will be wondering ‘why are we signing someone from non-league?” the insider told the Daily Star.

“Well, it’s not as simple as saying he’s from non-league so mustn’t be what we want.

“Nacho Monreal and Kieran Gibbs are ahead of him but there aren’t a load of left-sided players at the club.

“Cohen has been training with the first team – Ozil, Sanchez and co. He hasn’t been out with the reserves and he’s met all the first team players.

“With only Nacho Monreal and Kieran Gibbs at left-back, he’s only an injury or suspension away from a big chance.”

Cohen is a left-footer blessed with a ton of speed who can also play further up the pitch.

The transfer is expected to be formally announced this week, although we know how slow Arsenal can be with these things.
