Mike Jones will take charge of Arsenal’s game at Swansea, a referee who prefers to let the game ‘flow’ rather than stopping it for annoying things like fouls.

Jones’ has been in charge of 15 games this season, handing out 54 yellows and three reds, an increase of one red and 27 yellows in the six games since we last previewed him.

That preview came before his only Arsenal match of the season – against Bournemouth in November, a game in which he issued eight yellows (three to Arsenal, five to Bournemouth) which was the highest number of yellows issued in a single game by Jones this season.

Jones isn’t really a ref many people think of when they consider officials who make terrible calls, but he can often put player’s safety at risk by allowing far too much to go and can struggle at times to seem like he’s in charge of the game.

That being said, he’s far from the worst referee in the division but he is the referee who didn’t even think this was a foul:

Jones has also only taken charge of one Swansea game this season – their 1-0 defeat at Southampton back in September. During that game, he showed only two yellows, one to each side.

Jones took charge of four Arsenal games last season:

  • Watford 0 Arsenal 3, 2 yellows Watford, 1 Arsenal (Mertesacker)
  • Liverpool 3 Arsenal 3, 2 yellows Liverpool, 0 Arsenal
  • Hull 0 Arsenal 4, 2 yellows Hull, 2 Arsenal (Elneny, Giroud)
  • Arsenal 1 Norwich 0, 0 yellows Norwich, 1 Arsenal (Ozil)
