Everyone’s talking about Mesut Ozil’s interview with German outlet, Kicker, in which the playmaker explains why he hasn’t signed a new contract with Arsenal yet.

The German international is out of contract with Arsenal in 18 month’s time and while most appear far more confident that he’ll stay over Alexis Sanchez, who’s out of contract at the same time, it’s not a foregone conclusion by any means.

Ozil, who turned 28 in October, revealed that his future at Arsenal depends on one person: Arsene Wenger.

“I want to be clear on what Wenger is doing,” said Ozil.

“I feel very, very happy at Arsenal and have shown the club that I am prepared to extend my contract.

“The fans want me to stay. Now it’s just down to the club.”

He added, “The club knows that I am, above all, here because of Arsene Wenger – who signed me and whose trust I have.

“The club also knows that I just want to be clear on what the manager will do.”

Wenger is out of contract at the end of this season and no one really knows whether he’ll extend or not, although it’s looking that way. And it seems that’s what Ozil wants to happen. Although, his comments could also be taken another way: he wants to know what Wenger plans to do with the club in order to improve.

If Ozil signs, we’ll get the biggest indicator yet that Wenger is staying at Arsenal at least for another season.
