Lucas Perez gave some pretty sound advice recently when speaking with Arsenal Player.

The former Deportivo forward believes that it’s imperative that youth players, and people in general, learn to look after themselves; cooking, cleaning. Everything. He believes that you learn from the bad times, when you don’t necessarily have people around you, more than the good.

“Being that bit older and a little more mature, I learnt many more life lessons,” he said. “You learn how to survive on your own, how to prepare meals and how to do your washing. These are things you don’t do as a child because everything is done for you by your mother or relatives.

“You learn much more from difficult times than from good times. You need to have gone through some tough times to appreciate the good.”

Lucas knows all about bad times. Although he signed for Arsenal for a reported £17m in the summer, he’s only just started to get proper game time.

At the beginning of the season, the Spaniard struggled to get any minutes under his belt and when he was finally picked for the EFL Cup, he picked up an ankle injury against Reading.

Thankfully, he’s back in action and exceeding the expectations of many.

In 13 appearances in all competitions, the 28-year-old has scored six goals and assisted four, including a Champions League hat-trick against FC Basel. He also scored against Bournemouth in the Premier League during our 3-3 draw, despite only having 27 minutes on the pitch, and provided a lovely back-heeled assist for Olivier Giroud’s goal against Preston, helping us win the match.
