There were more starts for Arsenal’s players out on-loan during Sunday’s fixtures across Europe.

GERMANY

Takuma Asano started and completed 90 minutes for the second time in successive league matches for VfB Stuttgart as the attack-minded Japanese international operated alongside Christian Gentner in the heart of midfield.

SPAIN

Julio Pleguezuelo was named as one of Mallorca’s substitutes to face Cadiz and was called into action quicker than expected after replacing Juan Rodriguez on the half-hour mark. He did a good job defensively when called upon and helped the hosts to keep a clean sheet during their goalless draw.

NETHERLANDS

Tafari Moore was a second-half substitute during Utrecht’s 3-2 win over De Graafschap. Replacing Jeff Hardeveld, Moore played around 25 minutes as the hosts looked to consolidate their advantage having just conceded and the 19-year-old’s inclusion added fresh legs in the backline.

ITALY

Wojciech Szczesny and his Roma teammates endured a frustrating afternoon as they lost 3-2 against Sampdoria after four successive league victories. The 26-year-old was definitely not protected by his backline for large periods. Despite making a handful of saves, Woj will be disappointed to have conceded three.

Goals from Bruno Peres and Edin Dzeko were not enough to stop Roma from dropping three points against a side who were winless in eight ahead of kick-off. Attacking midfielder, Dennis Praet, levelled the scores after 20 minutes with a first-time strike that arrowed into the corner, leaving the Poland international helpless.

Ball-watching allowed substitute Patrick Schick to sneak through into the box unmarked, before cooly slotting home from a few yards out. Szczesny rushed off his line in an attempt to cover all angles but the finish was tidy.

Just two minutes later, Luis Muriel’s fantastic free-kick sealed a surprise victory. It swerved and span wildly during mid-flight, making it all the more hard for Wojciech to judge where the ball was headed before it nestled into the back of the net.
