Alex Iwobi has revealed that Arsene Wenger instructed them to be more ruthless in the second half – advice they clearly heeded.

Arsenal were terrible for the first 25 minutes or so of the game but for some reason Swansea stopped pressing, which had been effective against a stutter Arsenal. Not long after, they paid the price when Olivier Giroud fired home his fifth in five.

The second half was a completely different matter. The Gunners came out from the break determined to issue a battering and, for once, they didn’t take their foot off the accelerator when they doubled their lead.

Iwobi was instrumental in the Arsenal rout although he seems to have been stripped of both goals, despite wanting to claim the first.

“I’m claiming the first one! It’s on target so I’m going to claim that one,” Iwobi said. “Second one I can let slide, but the first one is definitely my goal.

“It was quite big [the deflection] I’m not saying, but they all go in, they all count. But that one at least, I’m praying it’s my goal.”

So what of those halftime instructions from Wenger?

“The boss got onto us a bit saying we know we can do better, just keep on moving the ball quickly, as fast as we can,’ he added. “In the second half we showed our quality and were able to get the three points.

“Swansea gave us a difficult start, they pressed us really well and they also kept the ball and were on the front foot. It was a great performance from us and at the end of the day we were able to get the three points.”
