Granit Xhaka will now serve a four-game ban after his second straight red of the season.

That is, of course, unless Arsenal appeal which they won’t. This was more of a red than his last one and they didn’t appeal that.

Next up for Arsenal is the away trip to Southampton in the FA Cup and while we will probably see changes, we have hardly any midfielders left and Xhaka would most likely have started. And have been needed.

After that we have Watford.

Then there is the small matter of Chelsea. Away. With a midfield pairing of Francis Coquelin and Aaron Ramsey. Fun times.

Finally, he’ll miss out against Hull at the Emirates, but by that point, they will have played Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool back-to-back-to-back in the league and will be nothing but 11 shells. Hopefully.

He’ll be back in time to play against Bayern Munich, a game his suspension wouldn’t have covered anyway.
