Borussia Dortmund are reportedly closing in on Gedion Zelalem.

The midfielder is out of contract at the end of the season and, as we previously reported, Dortmund are apparently interested in taking him on a free. Who wouldn’t be?

Now, according to ESPN, the German giants are very close to securing the player.

The 19-year-old signed for Arsenal back in 2013. He’s since gone on to make just four appearances for the first team and 41 for our u23s.

Last season, he enjoyed a surprising loan spell at Rangers. Since the teenager isn’t exactly the most… meaty-looking of players, many expected the lad to get kicked all over the pitch and return to north London on a stretcher. However, the US international took the opportunity given to him with both hands, eventually making 28 appearances in all competitions and assisting eight goals.

It would be a shame to see him go. If Dortmund are truly interested, this demonstrates the talent he holds. And he’s no more likely to get first team action in the Bundesliga than he is for us.

At the end of the day though, he’s out of contract so it’s down to the player.
