With the transfer window now open, numerous departures coupled with only one arrival in Kim Little means that news of a potential signing is like gold dust at the minute.

In a post about Crystal Dunn’s move from Washington Spirit to Chelsea Ladies, there was a small paragraph about Arsenal being in contact with Heather O’Reilly:

“Dunn is not the only American eyeing England: Multiple sources said Heather O’Reilly, who retired from the national team last fall, has spoken with London-based Arsenal. The winger, 32, played the past two seasons in Kansas City after two in Boston.”

This is not the first time she has been linked with the club, as she played in a behind closed door friendly for Arsenal as reported by our game magazine.

As per her US Soccer bio, she has 231 caps and 47 goals for the US WNT and many assists.

With many departures in the last two months, the club has now reduced the head count to the right number but there is a clear inbalance in certain positions as per below;

GK (1) Van Veenendaal

RB (1) Scott

LB (1) Mitchell

CB (2) Rose, Sampson

DM (2) Williams, Janssen

CM (2) Nobbs, Williamson

AM (4) Little, Smith, Van De Donk, Humphrey

RW (1) Devlin

LW (1) Mc Cabe

CF ( 4) Carter, Taylor, Oshoala, Kelly

Clearly, the club needs a specialist right winger with 18-years-old Charlotte Devlin the only dedicated player for that position in the squad.

The club used centre forwards last season in that position, not always with success.

So, HAO, as she is known fits the bill perfectly.

The 32-year-old has a lot of experience and would definitely improve the squad.
