According to recent reports, Arsenal have been linked with a possible approach to sign Atletico Madrid winger, Yannick Ferreira Carrasco.

The 23-year-old Belgian forward has scored ten goals and created three assists in all competitions for Diego Simeone’s side this term but is rumoured to be unsettled in Spain.

Having moved to Los Rojiblancos in July of 2015 for a reported £17m from Ligue 1 side AS Monaco, he has impressed since his switch so this development in his current situation is definitely a surprise to say the least.

He didn’t feature in any of Atletico’s first three matchday squads to start 2017 after suffering a bruised foot against Las Palmas before the winter break and has been publicly criticised by his manager for a lack of commitment to play in positions that he’s not comfortable in.

Simeone is a keen believer in both high work-rate and adaptability within his side and could be tempted to cash in on the winger, with plenty of sides interested. Arsenal are the latest to be linked, but an £85m release clause is an obvious stumbling block as far as negotiations are concerned.

If genuinely interested in signing him, they’d be eager to make an initial offer in the region of £30-40m for Carrasco especially given the level of interest across Europe for the winger’s services.

Wenger has already ruled out a spending spree during this January transfer window which means any potential deal would probably be finalised during the summer months, given the possible disruption it could cause within the squad.
