Could the current Arsenal player exodus from the club carry on as the squad gets smaller and smaller in numbers?

We previously mentioned that the development team squad is now down to just 13 players including two goalkeepers and therefore at risk of forfeiting games quite often due to injury or international call-ups.

We now have a  situation where the first team squad that was too big last season is in danger of becoming too small.

As of today, there are now 18 first team players.

GK: Van Veenendaal

DF: Scott, Sampson, Rose, Mitchell

MF: Williams, Janssen, Nobbs, Van De Donk, Williamson, Little

FW: Carter, Taylor, Oshoala, Devlin, Kelly, McCabe, Humphrey

Potential arrivals like Heather O’Reilly or rumoured interest in Tobin Heath would beef up the squad but there is also a denied departure rumour involving Oshoala as we mentioned.

A senior player could also be on her way out soon, as rumours have been going round for a while. Note, this is not the senior player who was supposed to go to Liverpool back in 2013, a move that never materialised.

Another squad member is also close to a move to an FA WSL 2 club and that could be announced soon, so the first team squad might be depleted to an unusual level after being overloaded for the whole 2016 season.

Let’s hope the departures will be limited to one player and a couple quality signings can come in to boost the squad to 20 which would be a good size to allow competition for place and cover for injuries.
