Arsenal and Manchester United are said to have made ‘tentative’ enquiries about West Ham’s Dimitri Payet according to an EXCLUSIVE in the Daily Star.

The player has made no secret of his desire to leave, but he wants a return to France with Marseille.

Asked about the player at his pre-Swansea press conference, Wenger said, “The vibes you get from the outside are not very positive I must say.

“I don’t know what’s really behind [the scenes] I just hope that West Ham and Payet can sort this out.

“It looks very complicated. The boy is not known for this mentality. What is happening to him now only West Ham can explain that.”

If I had to use one word to describe this rumour, at least in terms of Arsenal’s alleged interest, I’d say ‘bulls**t.

Marseille and West Ham are said to have agreed a deal in principle for the player to move, with the fee the only sticking point according to our resident French expert.

West Ham have turned down two bids from the Ligue 1 side, the most recent totalling £20m.

Of course, a deal with another club does not stop Arsene Wenger, nor Jose Mourinho, making an enquiry, but is he really a player that Wenger would want to bring in?

There’s no doubting his talent but serious questions hang over his overall contribution to the team.

Add that to the way he has behaved recently and it seems like a transfer Wenger would stay well away from.
