Speaking after Arsenal’s comfortable 3-1 win over Stoke City, Arsene Wenger revealed an aspect of the Gunners’ game that was key to their victory.

A contentious penalty to Stoke saw the visitors go 1-0 up early on. However, as Wenger explained post-match, the key was not to lose our heads. Stay in the game and the rest would come.

The goals did come.

Just before the stroke of half time, Theo Walcott scored the equaliser and just five minutes into the second half, Mesut Ozil put us 2-1 ahead. After that, Stoke offered nothing, although they’d been offering very little until this point anyway.

A late third goal from Alex Iwobi sealed the deal.

Although it felt as if Arsenal never really opened the throttle, they didn’t need to. There was plenty of time to come back from going 1-0 down and we kept our shape, continued to get forward without taking risks and sure enough, we won comfortably again.

That’s the difference between this current Arsenal team and the team from last season.
