Arsene Wenger has given encouraging updates on Olivier Giroud and Mohamed Elneny following Arsenal’s disappointing 2-0 loss at home to Southampton on Wednesday night.

Giroud injured his hamstring against Bournemouth at the weekend and, considering the France international has only just returned from weeks on the sidelines following a toe injury, it was disappointing to say the least.

Fortunately, however, the boss believes that the big guy could be available as early as our clash against West Ham on Saturday, which is a massive boost.

Elneny, who was subbed off early against the Saints midweek, is apparently just sick. He had an upset stomach before the game and although he insisted he was fine to play, Wenger had other ideas.

“He was sick before the game,” Wenger said.

“He decided he felt well enough. I could see after five or 10 minutes that he was not right. He has no medical injury problem, but he has diarrhea or a stomach problem.”

I bet Mo’s thrilled with Wenger essentially telling the world he had the runs.

Meanwhile, there’s no news on Cazorla. The little Spaniard has been out with an Achilles problem since our 6-0 win against Ludogorets in the Champions League and although Wenger insists it’s not a ‘career ending’ injury, he doesn’t know when he’ll return.

“Giroud is short, but has a chance to be available for Saturday. Cazorla I don’t know, honestly. It’s just inflammation. It can go in two days, two weeks – I don’t know. He has no setback, the inflammation is just still here. At the moment, it’s stable.”
