Arsene Wenger has delivered the latest team news ahead of Arsenal’s New Year’s Day clash against Crystal Palace at the Emirates.

The boss has revealed that Shkodran Mustafi, who has now returned to training, will be in the squad, as could Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, but Theo Walcott will most likely be short.

Meanwhile, he also had a worrying update on Kieran Gibbs, who’s had a scan on his knee after picking up a knock during the Gunners’ 1-0 win over West Brom on Boxing Day.

Apparently, said scan shows inflammation and the boss ‘hopes’ it’s only short-term, which doesn’t sound too promising since, as the manager, he should have at least an idea.

Perhaps the inflammation needs to go down first before any conclusions can be drawn.

What is clear, however, is that Gibbs will miss out against Palace and be replaced by Nacho Monreal.

It’s a shame, since, as much as I love Nacho, he’s been rusty this season and I was hoping this could give Gibbs his big chance to really break into the first team.

Hopefully, this injury is short-term and he returns soon.
