Arsene Wenger believes that Alexis Sanchez’s style of play is most comparable to Barcelona and former Liverpool striker, Luis Suarez.

Although his character is more than questionable, Suarez is a world class striker.

Since signing for Barcelona in 2014, he’s scored 97 goals in 116 appearances, and assisted 57. No matter what way you look at it, these stats are mindblowing.

Therefore, for Wenger to compare our very own South American to the former Liverpool man is quite a big deal.

Speaking ahead of Arsenal’s clash against Manchester City, the boss said that Alexis isn’t like anyone who’s ever played for the Gunners.

“[Alexis] is comparable to Suarez a bit in style,” he said.

“From players I had, no. Thierry Henry was a real athlete, naturally you saw this guy was a strong man. Alexis surprises you a little bit because of his size – you do not expect such a dynamic, strong winning attitude. It’s his game.”

He added, “He is a leader in his way on the football pitch because he is not scared of anybody. That’s a kind of leadership.”

I can see what the boss means. Although Alexis is miles away from Suarez at this point in time and isn’t half as bite-y, his tenacity and desire to win at all costs is similar. Wenger’s right: he isn’t scared. All he wants is to play football and score goals. To help the team.

Suarez is two years older than Alexis; it’ll be interesting to see where the Chilean is at Suarez’s age.
