Arsene Wenger has revealed that he is being ‘cautious’ with Danny Welbeck after the forward returned to first team training for the first time since he picked up his knee injury in May.

Welbeck has played only 49 games for Arsenal since signing from Manchester United in 2014.

Picking up one knee injury that ruled him out for 279 days and 41 games, he had no sooner returned from that one when he knackered his other knee and no doubt Ladbrokes mobile will offer decent odds on him picking up more than a few niggles as he makes his way back this time, something Wenger is keen to minimise.

Confirming the excellent news that he is now in full training, Wenger spoke about how wary he is over Welbz’s return.

When asked if Welbeck’s return was ‘like a new signing,’ Wenger replied, “Yes, but I am cautious with Ramsey but even more with Welbeck because Welbeck will need some time.

“Today is his first team training.

“Of course it’s fantastic because for him it is like starting a new career because he’s been out for such a long time but I am a bit cautious with the little setbacks you have when you’ve been out a long time, you have to be patient maybe.”
